Privacy Policy

Your letters, your business

What we collect, what we don't, how our advertising partners work, and how to opt out — written in plain English.

In one paragraph

The word unscrambler itself runs entirely in your browser — your letters never leave your device, and we never see your searches. We do not run our own analytics or set tracking cookies. However, this site is supported by third-party advertising (primarily Google AdSense), and those advertising partners may set their own cookies and collect their own data in accordance with their own policies. Details and opt-out instructions are below.

Who we are

This privacy policy applies to Word Unscrambler Ultimate, accessible at https://www.wordunscramblerultimate.com. For the purposes of GDPR, the data controller is the operator of this site; for the purposes of CCPA, we are the "business" that operates this site. Contact details for data requests are at the bottom of this page.

What data we collect ourselves

Almost nothing. The unscrambler tool runs entirely client-side: your letters are processed in your browser using JavaScript and a locally-cached dictionary file. We do not log, store, or transmit your letters or the words you find. We do not maintain user accounts, we do not require sign-in, and we do not have a database of users.

The only data we directly collect is what your browser automatically reports to our web host (Hostinger) as part of any HTTP request: your IP address, your browser's User-Agent string, the page you requested, and the time of the request. This data is held in standard web-server access logs by our hosting provider for a limited period (typically 30 days) for the purpose of security monitoring, debugging, and abuse prevention. We do not analyze, aggregate, or use these logs for any other purpose.

Cookies set by this site directly

This site does not set any first-party tracking cookies. We use a small amount of browser local storage to remember your filter preferences (minimum length, sort order, etc.) across visits, so you don't have to re-configure the tool every time. Local storage is not a cookie, is not sent to any server, and is fully under your control — you can clear it at any time via your browser's site-data settings.

Third-party advertising

This site is supported by third-party display advertising. We currently use, or may use in the future, the following advertising partners:

  • Google AdSense — Google's display ad network. AdSense and other Google partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this and other websites.

When a third-party advertising partner serves an ad on this site, that partner may collect data directly from your browser, including:

  • Your IP address
  • Cookies they have previously set on your device (across any site that uses them)
  • Your browser User-Agent and approximate location
  • Your interaction with the ad (impressions, clicks, hover time)

This data is collected by the advertising partner under their privacy policy, not ours. We do not have access to it and cannot delete it on your behalf — you'll need to contact the relevant partner directly. The most relevant policy is:

How to opt out of personalized advertising

You can opt out of personalized advertising in several ways, depending on your location and which devices you use:

  • Google Ads Settings: visit adssettings.google.com to disable personalized ads served by Google across any site.
  • YourAdChoices (US): youradchoices.com — the Digital Advertising Alliance's industry-wide opt-out for participating ad networks.
  • YourOnlineChoices (EU): youronlinechoices.eu — the European equivalent for users in EU member states.
  • Network Advertising Initiative: optout.networkadvertising.org — opt-out for many NAI member networks.
  • Browser controls: all major browsers let you block third-party cookies entirely in their settings. Doing so will disable personalized ads on this site without affecting the unscrambler itself.

Users in the European Union (GDPR)

If you are in the EU, EEA, or UK, the General Data Protection Regulation gives you specific rights regarding any personal data processed about you:

  • Right of access: you can request a copy of any personal data we hold about you. (For most users, the answer is "none.")
  • Right to rectification: you can ask us to correct any inaccurate personal data.
  • Right to erasure ("right to be forgotten"): you can ask us to delete any personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to object: you can object to certain types of processing, including direct marketing.
  • Right to lodge a complaint: with your national data protection authority.

If you accessed this site from the EU, our advertising partners use Google's EU User Consent framework to obtain consent before serving personalized ads. You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing your cookies for this site, or by using Google's opt-out tools linked above. To exercise any GDPR right with us directly, email privacy@wordunscramblerultimate.com.

Users in California (CCPA / CPRA)

California residents have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act and its amendments:

  • Right to know what personal information is collected, used, shared, or sold.
  • Right to delete personal information held about you, with some exceptions.
  • Right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information.
  • Right to non-discrimination for exercising any of these rights.

We do not sell personal information in the traditional sense. However, the use of third-party advertising cookies may be considered "sharing" under CCPA's definition. California residents can opt out of this sharing by following the cookie/opt-out instructions in the section above, or by emailing privacy@wordunscramblerultimate.com with the subject line "CCPA opt-out request."

The contact form

If you fill out the contact form or email us directly, you are voluntarily providing your name, email address, and the contents of your message. We use that information for one purpose: to reply to you and address your inquiry. We do not add you to any mailing list, share your details with third parties (except as required by law), or use the message for any purpose other than answering it. Messages are retained for as long as needed to resolve your inquiry, then deleted.

The CAPTCHA on the contact form is a simple math question generated locally in your browser — it deters automated spam bots. It doesn't track you, doesn't talk to any third party, and doesn't store anything.

Children's privacy

This service is appropriate for general audiences. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@wordunscramblerultimate.com and we will take steps to delete it. Note that advertising partners may set cookies regardless of user age; please use the opt-out tools above if you are configuring a device used by a child.

Data security

This site is served exclusively over HTTPS (TLS). The contact form, when submitted, travels encrypted between your browser and the form handler. However, no system is perfectly secure; in the unlikely event of a data breach affecting any personal information you've provided to us, we will notify affected users via email and update this page within 72 hours of becoming aware of the breach, as required by applicable law.

Changes to this policy

We may revise this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or in applicable law. The current version is always linked from the footer of every page. The "Last updated" date below shows when the most recent revision took effect. For substantive changes, we'll add a prominent notice on the home page for at least 30 days following the change.

Contact for privacy matters

Privacy questions, data access requests, deletion requests, GDPR / CCPA requests, or DMCA notices — please email privacy@wordunscramblerultimate.com. We respond to legitimate requests within 30 days (most within one business day). For non-privacy inquiries, please use the general contact page instead.
